MORE ABOUT JUDGE D'METRIA BENSON

First elected in 2006, Judge D’Metria Benson is one of Dallas County’s longest serving judges, dedicated to fairness and equal justice for all.


  • Incumbent Judge of County Court at Law #1, with more than 40 years of legal experience and a law degree from the University of Texas.


  • Has served as Local Administrative County Judge for all the Statutory County Courts in Dallas County, and as the Presiding Judge of the Dallas County Courts at Law.


  • Designed, created and implemented the County Court at Law Backlog Court (now known as Overflow Court).


  • Certificate of Special Competence in Civil Jurisprudence from the Texas College for Judicial Studies.


  • Presidential Commendation from the State Bar of Texas for leadership in improving justice in Texas.


  • Present and past professional involvements: National Association of Women Judges, International Association of Women Judges, National Association for Presiding Judges & Court Executive Officers, Mac Taylor Inn of Court, and more.


  • Served on the Texas Center for the Judiciary Nomination Committee responsible for nominating leadership of the Center, which is dedicated to enhancing the administration of justice in Texas and providing continuing legal education for the judiciary. Served as the Center’s By-Laws Committee Chair and on the Curriculum Committee.
